Superintendent

Welcome to the Gilmer County Charter School System and our website. It is an honor and privilege to serve as superintendent of this incredible district. We take pride in our community, our excellent quality of life, and the success of our schools. Our district is committed to bringing out the best in “Every Child, Every Opportunity, Every Day” and recognizes that strong schools are the foundation of our strong community.

We believe in the extraordinary potential of all our more than 4,200 students and are committed to meeting their individual needs. As a school district with a long tradition of excellence in education, GCCSS values a system of continuous improvement that permeates every aspect of its work in order to become a center of educational excellence.  We are committed to providing a challenging curriculum, skilled instruction, and a learning environment that responds to individual student academic needs. Our work together requires teamwork, dedication, and collaboration. That collaboration extends beyond our school district staff and students to the entire community. In the spring of 2016, our district, with the help of committed parents, business leaders, and community partners, began the work of developing true goals and strategies to guide the work of all Gilmer County Schools’ staff and students for the next five years. In the summer of 2017, these stakeholders came back together to celebrate our benchmark achievements of year-one and set new and more challenging goals. Our efforts are guided by research and the belief that every student is capable of attaining high levels of educational achievement in preparation for meeting the rigorous demands of the twenty-first century. As superintendent, I cannot express how excited I am to dig into the work that is being laid before us. I look forward to working with all members of our school and community family as we continue to make strides in the education of our young people!

I invite you to join our journey toward excellence. If you have any questions, or if we can be of assistance, please feel free to call us at 706-276- 5000.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shanna Wilkes
